Bastiladon Base

I’ve made a base for the Bastiladon while testing some new materials and trying something different. I got the inspiration from James Wappel’s blog. Mine are nowhere near the quality of the stuff he works on, but considering he’s a professional I’m pretty happy with how mine turned out. I will be making a few changes in future bases, but I’m going to go with this general style.

Saurus Warriors

Finished up the first block of Saurus Warriors. I want to do another 20 to give me the options of running two blocks or one big block of 40. The next block I will build with hand-weapon and shield rather than the spears.

First game of WFB with Lizardmen

I played two games today for our WFB Escalation League.  They were both against Wood Elves and were at 800 points.  I really enjoyed the game and it took some time to change my mindset away from 40k as that has been what I have been playing lately.  Here were my lists for the two games:

1st Game:

Hero: Skink Priest with Level 2

Core: 20x Saurus Warriors with full command and spears

Core: 12x Skink Skirmishers with Javelins

Special: Bastiladon with Solar Engine

Special: Stegadon

2nd Game:

Same as above, but dropping the stegadon, 2 skirmishers, and musician.  Adding in 8 Cold One Riders.

I managed to win both games, but took a real beating when Dweller’s Bellow went off on my Saurus block and in the second game on the Cold ones. The Bastiladon is absolutely pants in close combat, but is a decent support unit and managed to do some good damage with the Solar Engine. The Stegadon was nasty and really pushed combat in my favor.  The skirmishers did great in both games, getting wiped out in each, but managing to do some good damage with their poison shots. The Saurus block was kind of slow and took a lot of fire and when they finally got in combat kind of whiffed it not rolling a single 6 for predatory fire with 16 attacks. Overall it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the feel of the army.

Bastiladon

Had some insomnia issues last night and finished up my Bastiladon.  I love this model, it’s one of the main reasons I started the Lizardmen army.  The contrast of the earth tones on the dino with the bright yellows and blues of the solar engine and skinks really makes the model shine.  I haven’t done a base as I’m trying to figure out what I want to do.  Probably some sort of jungle or temple bases.

First group of Saurus Warriors with spears

I painted up the first ten Saurus Warriors for my Lizardmen army. I went with a lighter blue/green color for the skin versus the skinks, but pretty much kept the rest of the colors the same. I can’t wait to see this army develop as I think it will look very striking when done.

Lizardmen Skinks

Here is my first unit for my Lizardmen army.  I haven’t enjoyed painting the High Elves so I am selling those and picking Lizardmen up.  I just love the variety of models and the character of the army.  I will be having each unit type be a different color and get a nice range of colors inspired from poison toads to dinosaurs.

Custom Zone Mortalis WIP

I’ve been eyeing the Zone Mortalis tiles since they first came out from Forgeworld.  It looks like the sort of game I would really enjoy, but not wanting to spend $600 dollars on a single board, I decided to see what I could build out myself.

I recently acquired a table top Hot Wire Foam Cutter from Amazon and it allows me to make nice straight cuts in foam. The project would still be possible without it, but will save me a ton of time making cuts. The guide needs a little reinforcing when making cuts or it will push out of the way a little. I also found the best glue to use is Liquid Nails rather than craft or wood glue. It dries in a reasonable amount of time and is rock solid.

House paint is used to cover up the pink foam, and the flooring is mostly made out of plastic mesh used for knitting little tapestries and makes an inexpensive industrial flooring.  After I get a 4×4 built out, I will start detailing the walls with pipes and do some additional painting to make them look better.

Welcome to the new site

Welcome to my new blog, Magnum Danger.  I’ve imported all of the old posts from http://lamentum.blogspot.com/ so everything should still be there, but this will allow me to be a lot more flexible in what content I produce and also the format that it’s presented.  I hope you enjoy the new site and I can’t wait to show you the stuff I’m working on.

Blog Moving

I’ve decided to move this blog to WordPress and host it on it’s own domain.  The new site is http://magnumdanger.com/ and all of the content from here will be imported over there.  The scope of the site is going to expand including all of my different armies and games.  I have a few terrain articles in the work where I attempt to build a cheap Zone Mortalis board and will be showing miniatures from other games specifically Warmachine Convergence of Cyriss models, and Bolt Action British.

Terrain Inspiration – Gas Works Park

I like to keep my eyes open for cool idea for creating terrain from.  Today I took my son to Gas Works Park today to look at boats (his favorite thing in the world), and took a couple pictures of the old refinery equipment still at the park.  The park was once a natural gas refinery in the early 1900’s and has been converted to a park since it shut down.  A lot of inspiration here, with lots of platforms and pipes coming out. Looks pretty easy to build with pipe and other cheap materials.
