First 5 Tactical Marines
So I have the first 5 marines for the army “done”. I think I’m going to go and clean the white helmets up and do some weathering when I have everything I need to do that. Featured here is the 3D printed shouler pads that I ordered from here. I’m really happy with how they came out and they really add to the army making them look unique.
Rhino – WIP #1
Here are a few WIP shots of my first vehicle for the Sons of Medusa. I wanted to test the vehicle color scheme so that I could easily reproduce it on the rest of the army. I’m really pleased so far, except for the blacks. The grey edge highlight is sloppy and does’t feel right for the model. I’ll try and figure out how to do it better. I also still have some detail work and washing/blacklining to work on, but I think the color combination is nice.
Sons of Medusa – Color Test
I painted up a tac marine up real quick tonight to see if my plan for painting would work. The picture doesn’t show it very well and there is a little bit of sloppy work from rushing it, but I’m really pleased with the result. I will change a few things, but the overall plan should work out.
Mechanicum Incoming
I have this years large painting and modeling project decided on. I’m going to build and paint up 2000 points of Sons of Medusa Space Marines (Iron Hands successor chapter) and Adeptus Mechanicus Allies. This is going to be mostly an exercise in hobby and I really want to stretch myself with a few new techniques. Mostly I want to get batter at doing custom modeling work and getting better at kitbashing. The Mechanicus side will be the place where I really do the most amount of work, the space marines will be mostly stuff I never finished for the Lamenters. The AdMech are going to be played as Tau allies (unless I figure out a better codex for the rules). I’m excited for the project and have already started converting models over. This will be a lot more time consuming to complete compared to my normal building/painting so will probably be fewer models painted over the year.
A few of my ideas:
Knight Titan – converted from Dreadknight kit, this will be run as a Riptide and will be a centerpiece of the army.
Mechanicus Thralls – Converted from Dark Vengeance cultists, these will be the criminals/works picked up from the slums, some basic augments slapped on them, and pressed into service (Fire Warriors, maybe Kroot whichever fits the rules better).
Heavy Ranged Maniples (not sure on name) – converted from IG Sentinels (Broadside rules).
Magos – converted from Vampire Counts Wraith, with necron bits and pieces and a bunch of guns tacked on (Suit Commander)
Fire Warriors for Tau Allies
I painted up some Fire Warriors real quick in order to have a legal allied detachment for the Tau.
Farseer on Jetbike
So after my game on Saturday, I decided that I need to model up a Farseer on a jetbike as that seems to be a nice option. I have a bunch of old jetbikes that need to be refurbished, so I took the bike and cut off the wings on the back. The body was taken from a guardian model (a female one at that), the head and right arm are from a Dire Avenger Exarch, the shield vein thing on the back is from the Wraithblades, and the wings on the bike are from the Crimson Hunter. Pretty happy with how it came out. If I were to do it again I would try and find another head that looks more farseerish as my conversion only looks alright.

Batrep: Eldar vs Tyranids
Played my game with Michael today. We played at a newer game store near his house Gameshire. It’s got some real nice tables and is well lit and clean. Seems like a friendly place to play. We ended up rolling mission 5, Elrdad’s Will and Hammer and Anvil deployment. He took first turn and hid most of his army. He was playing his Tyranids and didn’t have the tools to really take care of all of my skimmers. He really struggled to do much of anything the first few turns of the game, as he was scared to run his little bugs out into my fire lanes. I managed to kill off a lot of his stuff by the end, leaving only a couple Genestealers, a single Hormogaunt and a couple Hive Guard at the end of turn 5. He did bring down two of my Wave Serpents, the Nightspinner, the Rangers, a squad of Dire Avengers and all but one Wraithguard (who would have died had we opted to continue on).
The stand out units of the game were definitely the Wave Serpents. Loading them out with Scatter Lasers and Shuriken Cannon is just disgusting the amount of firepower they put out. I managed to roll two 6’s for finding out how many shots the Serpent Shield would have and just managed to tear units apart, I think it’s probably the best transport in the game with how survivable, fast, and damaging it is. It’s kind of sad that it vastly overshoots the Falcon and doesn’t take up a slot being a dedicated transport. The jetbikes were also awesome, but only because they were able to turbo boost across the table and take his objective. I liked the Dire Avengers over the Guardians as I found that extra 6″ and the 4+ armor save really helped to keep them alive. The Wraithguard with D-Sythes were also very nasty, instant killing a Mawloc, though they were brought down by Genestealers, but required a multi-assault were one unit was all but wiped out on over-watch so the second could get into close combat.
It was fun to play, but I did feel a little bad for the Tyranids, as they are really showing their age/bad codex writing. It doesn’t help that Michael doesn’t like Tervigon’s which seem to be the real useful unit in codex.
